Strength of Materials I is a theoretical-practical course. Its purpose is to develop the skills of prediction, calculation and analysis of isostatic and hyperstatic structural systems, under various types of solicitations and using concepts from basic sciences and mechanics of materials. Its results contribute to the development of skills to identify, formulate, and solve strength of materials problems applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics.

It includes the following thematic axes: stress and axial deformation; torsion; stress, design and deflection of beams; and plane and triaxial stress.
