Environmental Engineering Laboratory

Organization profile

Organization profile

Civil engineering and the environment are closely related, due to the broad spectrum of action fronts of professionals in this area. Therefore, the commitment of future civil engineers with the environment is more than an imperative need.

In this context, the Environmental Engineering Laboratory seeks to support research in sustainable engineering, approached from academic works, teaching projects and scientific research works, which respond to productive and social challenges, always respecting good practices. The Laboratory also provides specialized technical support to the industry.

Tests
The Laboratory performs several types of tests, such as the following:

Water
Drinking water quality
Toxic waste
Determination of heavy metals

Soils and rocks
Soil characterization
Surface distribution maps
Isotopic relationships
Rock, mineral and sediment characterization
Contaminant speciation

Air
Air pollutant estimation

Energy
Analysis of solid and liquid fuels
Elemental analysis of combustion products
Control of impurities in fuels

Porous solids
True density
Porosity and pore size determination
Surface area
Physisorption tests
Chemisorption tests

Infrastructure
The laboratory meets the requirements of national and international standards.

UN Sustainable Development Goals

In 2015, UN member states agreed to 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. Our work contributes towards the following SDG(s):

  • SDG 4 - Quality Education
