Working conditions of journalists in Peru

  • University of Arizona

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

As a result of the health emergency caused by COVID-19, there were significant layoffs and reduction of salaries in the journalistic union. Likewise, there are cases of journalists who lost their lives in the exercise of their function, either due to the lack of biosafety protocols or because many professionals, being part of the population at risk, came out to cover the news.
Although the health crisis shows a pre-existing precarious job situation, it also deepens it. The codependency between the news media and the advertising of goods and services puts the quality of the news coverage at risk and promotes low-level content.
Taking into account the aforementioned, in this research the current conditions of journalism in Peru are considered as an object of study.
