Evaluation of contaminants in aeroponically irrigated vegetables with water from the Surco river treated with Ferrato(VI)

Project: Research

Project Details

Project summary

This project proposes the use of ferrate(VI) ions, a multivalent agent for water treatment with the ability to remove heavy metals and with disinfection power, to treat the waters of the Surco River and evaluate the microbiological safety of vegetables irrigated with the treated water. To achieve this, the use of an automated and in-situ ferrate(VI) production technology is proposed to treat the water and use said water in aeroponic cultivation for the production of two plant species such as the radish (whose edible part is in contact direct contact with water) and lettuce, which, being a low-stemmed vegetable, can experience bacterial contamination from contact with water.
