Youtubers and instagramers: cultural and civic practices of young people from Lima

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

In a complex communication scenario aggravated by the Covid19 pandemic, the demand for new digital skills for citizen exercise is growing. In this context, it is appropriate to delve into the emerging forms of content production, circulation and consumption of the two most important global social networks: YouTube and Instagram.

The work carried out by the Education and Communication research group of the University of Lima, constitute a starting point to recognize how young people are informed, entertained, socialized, participate in the discussion of topics, construct and project their personal identities, and they learn and develop media skills in a self-taught way. This acquires a greater relief due to the confinement to which we are subjected by the emergency.

This work is part of an Ibero-American project of the Alfamed network, which will allow the project to compare the local results with those of the 15 participating countries.
