Abstract
The study analyzes the components of the political culture in Lima, their characteristics and types of subcultures. It carried out a total of eigth focus groups and a survey of 1,530 people. A political culture pattern has been found in the Lima Metropolitan area, common to a large share of the population. In this model, eleven explanatory factors stand out.
In general, with regard to this political culture, a low level of social capital is seen along with widespread anomie. Thus, the population of Lima seems to be more output-driven and pragmatic, assigning a higher priority to the achievement of goals over the means necessary to achieve them, which reflects their little concern about input issues.
Were found four types of subcultures. These ones include people who express higher participatory or advocacy demands for the sake of democratic institutions.
Doubtlessly, in general, support of democracy is rather low, because a spurious loyalty prevails, where 58% of interviewees support democracy while expressing remarkable dissatisfaction about it.
