Abstract
In times of social networks, political actors post their content on Twitter and Facebook to be replicated by other media and by the population. However, politicians have the media as their main vehicle for transmitting ideas and messages to citizens.
Within this framework, the author chooses the newspaper El Comercio as the object of study because it is the most representative written medium of the main communications business conglomerate in the country. The company that shelters it has an almost exclusively family shareholding, widely distributed among hundreds of members of the Miró Quesada family, who are grouped into various factions that reflect important variations in their political line during the last two decades. Thus, the power games and coalitions within it determine the predominance of a certain editorial line in a marked period of time on which the author seeks to shed light by examining the history of the newspaper as a factual power and its influence on what It goes from the current century.
During the last two decades, the newspaper El Comercio has had important changes in its editorial line. He began the present century with a moderate liberal perspective, later went on to a decidedly conservative stage and today he has liberal positions in the political and social and libertarian in the economic sphere.
