Abstract
The ten years in which Alberto Fujimori served as president of Peru (1990-2000) constitute a crucial chapter to understand our contemporary history. This period has been described as the last authoritarian government of the 20th century in the country. This is how the author of this book, José Alejandro Godoy, understands it, who, through a detailed journalistic and bibliographic investigation, gives an account of the handling of power during a decade of violence, corruption and authoritarianism, the effects of which can still be traced in our time. More than a political analysis of the nineties in Peru, The Last Dictator is conceived as an exhaustive account of the most significant events in the life and government of Alberto Fujimori. An exercise in historical memory whose purpose is for readers to make their own value judgments about a decade in which the country lost the path of democracy.
