Abstract
This article presents the cultural conceptions around money. Key factors are identified in the process of change between cash and the adoption of digital money technologies; the impact of this process on progressive financial inclusion is analyzed. The objective is to understand human behavior around personal finances, and the use of physical and virtual money. Based on the limitations of economic approaches, a sociocultural analysis approach of the public is used; to understand the codes that motivate the use of electronic transactions. Finally, findings are made around digital money: communal ecosystem, daily relationships, symbolic codes and agents of change. And it concludes with a sociocultural study scheme on the adoption of technologies. The study is supported by the use of primary and secondary sources: interviews with traders and specialists, respectively. © 2021, Associacao Iberica de Sistemas e Tecnologias de Informacao.
