Growth of scientific production in a communication journal

Research output: Contribution to journalArticle (Contribution to Journal)peer-review

Abstract

An analysis of the growth of the literature published by Contratexto, a communication journal by the Universidad de Lima (Peru), from its first publication in 1985 to December 2023 is presented. It seeks to determine the form of growth that best fits the data observed in the journal and the genre of authorship. Mathematical modeling is used through non-linear regression analysis to understand the behavior of the data and its future projection. For the collection and organization of the data, the EndNote 9.0 bibliographic manager was used; then, the necessary data was selected and exported to an Excel spreadsheet to be subsequently read and executed with the R Project’s readxl, nls2, and proto packages. The results show a better fit to a polynomial regression model for growth of the journal and the contributions of male authors. In the case of female authors, the exponential regression model shows a better adjustment to these contributions to the journal.
