Abstract

The objective of the study was to determine the psychometric properties of the scale for suicide ideation of A. Beck; as well as determine the characteristics of suicidal ideation in adolescents in educational institutions emblematic of Chimbote, Peru, in 2012, according to demographic variables. For which determined a random sample simple for aspect ratios, obtaining a sample of 134 students aged 13 to 19, men and women who were enrolled in the 3rd, 4th and 5th year of secondary educational institutions, who applied them an instrument validated for this study, with a reliability: α = 0,612. It was found that the low level dominates of suicidal ideation in a 51,5%. The actual prevalence of students who have high level of suicidal ideation, that are at risk, is estimated at a 38,8%, between 30.6% and 47,0%
for a 95% confidence level. In relation to sex, the female presents highest percentage in 43% of levels
high of ideation suicidal; with a prevalence that ranges from 37.8% to 49.6%, compared with the male sex
which presents lower percentage of high level 33.3% with a prevalence that ranges between 27% to
37,8%, for a 95% confidence level. As regards the actual prevalence of adolescent students who have
high levels of risk of suicidal ideation, it varies between 40.3% to 53.1% in the ages of 13 to 15 years.
