Preloading design based on long term extensometer readings. A comparison of alternative models

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

The paper describes the analysis of a large scale preloading test aimed at determining precisely soft soil properties in a deltaic area. Deep continuous extensometers provided the key information to validate the settlement models. Two alternatives: an elastoplastic 2D plane strain FE model and a one dimensional consolidation model were used to reproduce the long term deformation records, including an unloading stage. The two models were then used to predict the behaviour of the soil under the project service loading
