Abstract
Giovanni Bottiroli argues that rhetoric can be applied to the analysis of the characters because they can be metaphorical, metonymic, sinecdo-quic or antithetical. In Los ríos profundos by José María Arguedas, the-re are metaphorical characters like Ernesto and Antero, because their knowledge of the world are based on the principle of analogy; metony-mic, for example, like Lleras and the opa Marcelina ; sinecdoquic as the Principal and the Old man and antithetical, like the father of Ernesto and Peluca. This approach emphasizes how to use a rhetoric of character to address the narrative of Arguedas.HOMENAJE A JOSÉ MARÍA ARGUEDAS
