Resumen
Biorefineries are the materialization of the industrial metabolism aimed to sustainability. Recycling, closed material cycles and copying the nature optimizes the use of materials, while avoiding an unnecessary expansion of the economic activities toward the surrounding ecosystems, the Triple Helix Model for innovation, where government, industry and academia are bound together producing knowledge-based economic development. Here we present one example of the Peruvian experience towards the development of a first generation shrimp waste biorefinery for the production of feed protein, chitin based seed covers and the astaxanthin carotenoid.
