Resumen

Published in 2021, the book Vista chinesa, by Tatiana Salem Levy, tells the story of J & uacute;lia, an architect from Rio de Janeiro who leaves her home to go for a run in the surroundings of the tourist spot that gives the novel its title, when she is dragged into the Tijuca Forest and raped. In visceral language, Levy addresses the trauma of a violated body and how this experience reverberates in the character's life, especially in her relationship with her body. Five years after the incident, J & uacute;lia writes a letter in order to purge her traumatic memories and record all the details of the crime, while imagining her children as the recipients. Through the experience of rape, the protagonist becomes aware of her social role and begins to express herself from her own point of view, constituting a perspective of difference and resistance to patriarchy, thus favoring the notion of decentering present in contemporary Brazilian literature. Decentralization is understood here as a set of forces aimed at gender inequality and social, political, and economic exclusion. Thus, through a decentralized narrator, the work goes against the patriarchal field, redefining the relationship between public space and private life, with a writing that opposes the silencing of rape. Furthermore, the theme of rape is approached from a perspective more directly inscribed in the story, focusing on conflicts and female positions present in the social context. An analysis in this direction relies on the theoretical formulations of Ginzburg (2012), Resende (2008), Kiffer (2022), among other scholars.
